The Modern Squared Chic Quilt was designed to showcase beautiful large scale fabrics that don’t do justice to cut up in small pieces. I know as quilters we cut up fabric to sew into smaller pieces but some fabrics aren’t designed to cut up too small.
The Modern Squared Chic Quilt is something you might see in interior design magazines draped over a bed or couch to create warmth in a room.
The pattern is random but balanced to the eye. It isn’t too busy to over stimulate a room but simply accents a room.
This quilt was intentionally designed to use a reasonable amount of yardage that you might currently have in your stash from a favorite fabric collection. I often purchase favorite fabrics in quantities of quarter yard, half yard and full yard. What about you?
The Modern Squared Chic Quilt would look beautiful in traditional or modern fabrics. I’m sure you can imagine your own personal collection by studying the grayscale color version of the quilt.
Perfect for the fabric collection you stashed away not knowing how to celebrate it with. I’ll be making this quilt in several versions with fabric collections that I have stashed away stumped at how to present them in a quilt.
Below you will find video tutorials to take you step by step constructing the quilt. It is such a quick sew has the quilt is constructed in four rows. Perfect quilt for a beginning quilter or quick sew for the experienced quilter! The pattern also includes a coloring page so you can plan your own pattern in your favorite fabrics.

The original colorway of this quilt is what inspired me to create this pattern. I LOVE buffalo plaids but with their bold pattern it is tricky for me to showcase them in small cut quilt pieces. I also LOVE toile fabrics and want to showcase the scene and artwork. I also love all plaids and this quilt is just perfect for them. A touch of floral or small print fabrics soften the large scale prints.
The toile fabrics can be tricky to include in a quilt design. I have always been drawn to the story and artwork of toile fabrics. The Modern Squared Chic Quilt includes large fabric squares to showcase and celebrate these fabrics.

Here is a collection of fabrics that I have hoarded little for 13 YEARS to make a quilt for my darling husband Cory. Cory loves the ocean and water. I haven’t dared to cut into the fabrics as I just couldn’t decide which pattern would showcase the fabric. I LOVE the large florals and complementary prints of Martinique by Three Sisters for Moda Fabrics. My husband wants this quilt in King Size so I’ll be sure to add that sizing to the pattern as soon as I get the quilt sewn.
I never knew how to cut up those large florals and toiles that I tea dyed. These fabrics have been stashed away for at least ten years! Time to pull them out and cut them out into a Modern Squared Chic Quilt to wrap my love around him.
Can’t wait to cozy up with this quilt and I think I’ll make an extra one as a gift this year! Please enjoy this beautiful quilt. Can’t wait to see what you will create! May the work of your hands delight the soul! XOXO! Deanna
This is beautiful! Love it!
